Finding Your Voice Amongst a Sea of Others

Mixed emotions

Taking a pregnancy test can bring up many mixed emotions and feelings. It can feel isolating, confusing and embarrassing just to name a few.

For me, all of these feelings crossed my mind when considering taking one.

I was in a toxic relationship, with a boyfriend who was very controlling with what he wanted if I were to be pregnant. I also believed that my parents would be more than disappointed in me if I was pregnant.

All I could think about was what other people would do/want if I was pregnant, that through the process I forgot to think about what I would want.

I felt so much pressure from my boyfriend, and fear of what my parents would think that I did not take my own thoughts into consideration.

What do you want?

Looking back, I wish I had a Pregnancy Centre to support me in taking a pregnancy test.

Sometimes, when you have so many outside voices and opinions, it can start to cloud your mind from understanding what you truly want.

I was so consumed with other voices, that I began to feel confused of what I would actually think and do if I were to be pregnant. I realized these outside opinions were distracting to my own.

What would you actually want if your test came back as positive?

I later realized that thinking about what others wanted, instead of what I did, actually resulted in me postponing taking a test for as long as possible. This simply just led to more fear, and more confusion.

KPCC can allow for a safe space to not only take the test, but to have someone support you in mapping out your thoughts when the result becomes a reality.

KPCC pregnancy tests

KPCC tests (Rapid Response) are self administering tests taken through urine sample.

Typically, it is best to wait until you have missed a period before taking a test for most accurate results.

Taking these tests are free and can be done at a pace that works for you. Follow up appointments can also be made so you can continue to talk with someone to process your thoughts in a healthy way and on your terms.
