Pregnant: Ctrl-Alt-Delete?
Is this one of those moments you wish life was as flexible as a computer? You thought everything would be fine, but one click, one keystroke that slipped your hand or your mind…and there goes everything?
But there’s no backspace.
You’re locked up. You’re frozen.
All that work you have done - is it lost? All the goals you’re trying to meet - are you going to fail them?
You try to focus on a solution, but the only recurring answer is “this can’t be happening!”
How to get out of this paralysis, this despair, this anxiety where everything is now on the line?
Can you just Ctrl-Alt-Delete? Restart. World back to normal.

Do you need to gain Control?
Each part of your life seems shaken. You’re surrounded by a hundred voices screaming at you or from inside you. “They can’t find out!” “I have to be able to work!” “This will compromise my life plans!”
Or maybe those voices are telling you something more specific. “You have to keep the baby!” “You better get an abortion!” “If you don’t, I’ll…”
Take a breath. Because underneath all those voices is your voice.
Yes, these overwhelming situations and people are loud and demanding and can definitely factor into the equation. But in the end, this is still your choice. It is in your control, even if you feel utterly powerless. You do not need to let a situation, no matter how difficult, push you in a direction you would not otherwise go. You can take the time to sort past the obstacles, the opinions, and own the weight of this moment and its outcome.
Are you looking for an Alternate route?
Life can’t continue on as it always did. A change of course is necessary, in one way or another. The only question is - which way?
It’s important to look at each route, see where it goes, what it involves, and what it would mean for you. This is not a detour to take blindly and spontaneously, but to evaluate carefully. What might each aspect of your life be like 5 or 10 years from now based on this detour?
Can you Delete this?
While an abortion is often portrayed as the easiest, quickest solution, and while it may provide relief for your immediate fears - it is not able to reboot your life back to how it was.
It may ‘delete’ your pregnancy.
It can’t delete the memories of how and why your pregnancy began. It can’t delete the fact that you were pregnant, even if for such a short time. It can’t delete the situations that you don’t know how to handle.
In fact, abortion is the only choice that you can’t backspace. For women who choose the option of adoption; adoptions can be repealed. But abortion is the only keystroke that is permanent.
Many young women have said that their decision to “delete” instead left them stuck in another sense, whether that’s the physical complications or emotional pain.
