So, what is Perinatal Mood, Anxiety and Related Disorders (PMAD)?
It is the clinical term used by healthcare providers to describe some of the common mental health issues that women can have during pregnancy and the post-partum period.
Some of the most common mental health issues are Anxiety, Depression, OCD, PTSD, Bipolar, and Postpartum Psychosis. Many of which can have overlapping symptoms.
Symptoms are different for everyone. They may include:
Crying or sadness.
Lack of interest in things you normally enjoy.
Feelings of guilt, shame, or hopelessness.
Feelings of anger or irritability.
Constant worry or racing thoughts.
Changes to sleep or appetite.
Physical symptoms like dizziness, hot flashes, or nausea.

If your mental health issues are not recognized and not properly treated, that's when they can have a negative effect on you, your baby, and your family.
